Back to the Lab (again)

Dragging Myself Kicking and Screaming Into the Future

This will be my first and only AI-generated post on this site. I used Llama 3 8B Instruct, running in llama-cpp, and with a little prompting got it to produce this.

-----

I'm not one to typically jump at the opportunity to dive headfirst into the latest and greatest technology trends. But, after being surrounded by coworkers and friends who swear by the benefits of AI in their development workflows, I finally decided to take the plunge. I set out to install an LLM (Large Language Model) on my local machine, mostly out of curiosity and a desire to form a more informed opinion.

The process, to my surprise, was remarkably straightforward. I managed to get Llama-CPP up and running in a matter of hours, with minimal fuss and no major hiccups. The online resources available were more than sufficient to address any questions or concerns I had along the way. I have to admit, I was expecting a steeper learning curve, but it seems that even I can drag myself into the future.

As I begin to explore the capabilities of my newly installed LLM, I'm starting to see the potential for real-world applications. I'm interested in using AI to augment my development workflow, as well as to explore more creative and artistic uses of the technology. But let me be clear: I have no intention of surrendering my data or using large-scale AI services run by major tech companies. I'm committed to keeping my AI usage local and decentralized, and I'm excited to see the possibilities that this approach offers.

I'm still in the early stages of this journey, and it's been fascinating to see how my perceptions of AI are shifting. At first, I was skeptical about its potential to improve my workflow or enhance my creative endeavors. But now, I'm starting to see the potential benefits and am excited to explore them further, all while maintaining control over my own data and digital infrastructure.

It's still early days, but I'm excited to see where this journey takes me. I'm no longer just a skeptic, but a (cautious) convert to the world of local AI development. Bring on the AI revolution, on my own terms!
