Panning for Tunes (May 2025 Edition)
I had originally envisioned this series as being a monthly thing, but it's looking like it might be more like semiannual. Quality over quantity!

Julie Crews - Floating Into the Night
With David Lynch having (relatively) recently passed away we took on the task of finally watching all of Twin Peaks. While the overall experience of the show (and "experience" is really the only word) was wildly mixed, one thing that stuck out to me was the music. Julie Crews is the primary musical force in the first two seasons, and this album must have been the prototype for the entire dark-synthpop genre which was to come later (a-la Chromatics, Glass Candy, and basically the whole Italians Do It Better catalog). Plug it in on a dark rainy night and you can't go wrong.

Joe Dassin - Les Champs-Élysées
This is one of the albums that was in my rotation for a long time. We used to clean the house to it. But then it fell off the rotation, and I only recently remembered it. The album's title track, Les Champs-Élysées, is quite famous in its own right, but the whole album is worth a listen. I haven't really explored the rest of Joe Dassin's discography, I suppose I should, but he's one of those old superstars-of-his-time that has a thousand albums and I would hardly know where to begin. I doubt that any of it could surpass this album by much anyway.

an album about a sheep experiencing love in it's nature
I'm in and out of the post-rock/post-metal genre. There's some all-time favorites which I come back to again and again, like Plini and Unreqvited's "Mosaic I: l'amour et l'ardeur", but most of it bounces off me.
I'm not even halfway through "A Lonely Sinner" and I can tell it's going to stick. It's beautiful and haunting and somehow manages to sound unique in a genre characterized by walls of nearly opaque sound. And it was all recorded by a single person in their bedroom!

The most saccharine, cheesy, and bouncy throwback to 80's eurodisco I've come across in a while. The whole thing is a vibe.
